Stolen Realm: First Play

One of the “Hard” encounters in Act I of Stolen Realm.

I really enjoy games that I can play with friends — the more friends, the better! So it should come as no surprise to anyone that games like For the King or Tribes of Midgard are on my list. Most recently, I’ve added Stolen Realm. It’s one of those turn-based, tactical RPGs that should be nothing new to most modern gamers.

While the simple graphics style of the game may be off-putting for some folks, I don’t find that it detracts from the overall gameplay. There’s enough about Stolen Realm that feels interesting, from building your party from their presets of wizard, thief, ranger, and warrior (I named mine after all of my gaming friends…) to giving them gear and crafting things.

Gathering materials for crafting has been the most difficult part of the game and something that I personally feel could be improved upon. They all seem to be reflex mini-games that require you to click something to keep it or stop it between a small box parameter. I don’t know about you guys, but I have difficulty with reflex games a lot of the time, so that part of the game makes me feel a little bit hamstrung. Since this is my first play, I can’t say how important crafting is to the overall game. Thankfully, right now, I don’t even have any patterns to craft from. Materials will definitely be a commodity, but gold so far doesn’t seem to be. We’ll see!

I haven’t gotten to play it with friends just yet, so I can’t speak to the multiplayer experience but as soon as I play it with friends, I’ll let you guys know!

Until next time…!
