Lafiel Elumenel

Lafiel Elumenel ♦ Wandering Minstrel ♦ Composer

Songbird of Idyllshire

Having grown up in the colony of Idyllshire, Lafiel lived a generally care-free life of freedom and safety. She was able to pursue her own desires and her own path with the blessing of her parents, a pair of retired adventurers who settled down in the colony to assist in rebuilding it.

Lafiel fell in love with the many songs and ballads that wandering minstrels and bards would bring through the city, though she had a hard time believing so many far-fetched tales.

Ashes of Everglade

Before they migrated to Idyllshire, Lafiel and her family were from a small forest village known as Everglade, located in the Coerthas Eastern Highlands not far from Ferndale. When Nidhogg reaped his fiery vengeance upon the nearby town, Everglade was caught in the great wyrm’s havoc and burned to the ground.

Lafiel lost a number of neighbors and friends to the blaze, something that she recalls vividly, even though she was a child then.

Feathered Hair Ornament

Feathered Hair Ornament
Braided in her hair on the left side of her head

It is made of various beads and precious stones, woven into the braid that adorns the left side of Lafiel’s head. Also woven into the braid are strands of steel-blue hair that do not match Lafiel’s own soft blue. Those of particularly keen scent may recognize the smell of gardenias, but also the scent of one Koh’li Nbolo, a miqo’te Keeper that is oft seen in Lafiel’s company.

Woolen Swatch SquareWoolen Embroidered Swatch
Kept in the chapbook of songs Lafiel writes in

A soft, care worn square of wool it’s embroidered with the letter “L” in deep blue, though the blue coloration of it seems to be a bit faded. It has no distinctive smell, having been kept between the pages of a book for seemingly many years. Yet, it is a precious object to Lafiel who doesn’t let it get far from her, if she allows anyone else to handle it at all.

Small Wood-carved SongbirdSmall Hand-Whittled Wooden Songbird
Kept in her satchel, but brought out on occasion

Made from the wood of a caelumtree, this little wooden bird has seen better days. From travel and use, whatever rough edges it might have had have been smoothed over and rounded. The surface of the carved critter is soft and unlacquered, any oil or stain used to treat it having long-since been worn away.

Set of Children's Jumping JaxA Set of Children’s Jumping Jax
Kept in her satchel, but brought out on occasion

A childish thing for a woman of her age to have on her person, but Lafiel sometimes distracts or entertains herself with this children’s game, played by bouncing the ball upward and picking up as many specific colors of the metal bobs as she can in order to catch the ball before it hits the ground again.

Idyllshire Resident / Frequent Visitor

Lafiel resides in Idyllshire these days, separately from her parents. Others may know her from frequent performances in The Hard Place, the tavern within the city. She’s sung everything from jaunty sea shanties picked up from traveling Lominsans to epic adventure ballads learned from other passing bards and minstrels. Her repertoire is vast, gleaned from a lifetime of listening to other people and their stories. Perhaps even yours…

Wandering Adventurers

Ever since she left Idyllshire to pursue more stories for her arsenal of songs, Lafiel has appeared in small townships and villages all over Eorzea. Her most recent travels have carried her through Coerthas and Ishgard, out into the Black Shroud. Other travelers through those areas are welcome to have met or seen her on the road, maybe even shared a meal by the fire or at one of the local inns.

Former Residents of Everglade or Ferndale

Lafiel’s family were shepherds, so they dealt in a lot of wool and mutton, which were both needed often in the Coerthan climate. Former residents of either Everglade or Ferndale are welcome to have known or done business with her family before Everglade was destroyed and they moved to Idyllshire.

Koh'li NboloKoh’li of the Nbolo
Heartward & Protector

It was, perhaps, the divine threads of Nymeia’s loom or the fickle compass of Llymlaen that placed this sturdy Adder in Lafiel’s path. Brusque and succinct, Lafiel delights in teasing the gruff miqo’te and filling his ears with conversation.

After crafting a song for his fallen siblings, Lafiel has found her way into the stoic warrior’s heart — and he into hers. Blessed of Menphina, the two have dedicated themselves to one another in both love and adventuresome friendship.

Pau Monteraux

Pau Monteraux
Friend & Budding Thaumaturge

This shy, awkward elezen is something of an enigma to Lafiel as of yet. He speaks very little of himself, only occasionally of his familial woes within the Shroud and his various odd-and-ends work as a lightweight adventurer — if it can even be called that. Still, he seems a good and kind man, always a welcome conversationalist within Lafiel’s sphere of influence.

Mesa KhaMesa Kha
Friend & Bard

While Lafiel still considers the plucky xaela a friend, she’s not quite certain just how much she trusts the melancholy bard. The revelation of Mesa’s feelings for her, followed immediately by Mesa’s disappearance and horrific injuries have left Lafiel hesitant to invest any deeper in the troubled woman. Time may yet mend their fractured friendship, but that remains to be seen.

FFXIV Placeholder IconMorgan Parnass
Friend & Knight

Gentle and sweet to a fault, Morgan has been a welcome presence in Lafiel’s orbit. With big dreams of becoming a “storybook knight” Morgan’s aspirations to help those less fortunate, even to the detriment of herself sometimes, are laudable. Still, Lafiel finds need to remind her that sometimes helping others at the cost of all else, especially onself, isn’t always the best idea.

Multi-colored ButterflySeemingly Random Butterflies
Often times seen flitting somewhere near Lafiel

These harmless-looking golden and multicolored butterflies hover near Lafiel much of the time she’s outside the Shroud. For those of aetheric skill and sensitivity, these minuscule creatures have an aetheric density far in excess of what should be considered normal for them. Should you opt to inspect them further — much to their agitation — you will find that they are Earth and Wind aspected in nature.
