This is a make-up day for Day One: Envoy. It should be noted here that the last four-line stanza in a ballade or a sestina are called envoi (or envoy) in poetry.

The Lighthouse

On a remote island there’s a lighthouse
Standing silent vigil over the sea
Lit by a brilliant flame that none can douse
That endless beam a benevolent plea
It calls to the ship’s sails and her bowsprit
Radiance cutting through the night so black
Like a clarion voice it calls to thee
“Come home, come home, let me guide you back.”

She stands there, always, and never in vain
Looking out ‘cross the waves of boundless blue
Here is her queendom, her born domain
Unwitting of how many deaths she eschews
Her watch is eternal, her warmth so true
Surrounded by heather and soft lilac
Her whispers are soft, a constant hushed coo:
“Come home, come home, let me guide you back.”

Her light, ever-burning, calls out to all
Drawing them nearer her bright, joyous soul
Darkness, all fear, dissipated, made small
This is her calling, her duty, her role
Safe harbor she gives, worn spirits made whole
Her silhouette divine against dawn’s stack
They hear her as her virtues they extol:
Come home, come home, let me guide you back.”

Envoi:

Yet time carries on, taking toll on us all
And the lighthouse succumbs to its attack
Be it Fate or Gods or Kami that call:
“Come home, come home, let us guide you back.”
