[RE] Roleplay Recap: Week 8

Lafiel

We started off this week with some downtime with Lafiel and Koh’li Nbolo as they packed and planned their itinerary for their upcoming journey to Coerthas and Dravania, Lafiel’s homeland. Koh’li had only ever passed through on various Adder assignments or as part of his coming-of-age sojourn into the Orn Wilds. They spoke of the things Lafiel wanted to show him, the stories she wanted to share, all the tiniest facets of the lands that built her into who she was.

It was a calming, relaxing time for the two of them after the harrowing adventures and looming threat that still existed from the East and Zerey’s fight against the Masaki. A welcome respite and something for the pair to look forward to in the days ahead.

Later on in the week, Lafiel encountered Pau Monteraux, the enigmatic thaumaturge that had a deep-seated desire for adventuring, yet obstinately stood in his own way from pursuing it. They spoke of him possibly seeking opportunities with local free companies and the like, which he seemed keen on. They also spoke of the mysterious World Voice that allowed Lafiel to communicate with the Spirits of the Forest. Thusfar, Lafiel hadn’t had time to experiment in other environments to see if the spirits of the desert or the spirits of the sea would respond to her as well as the spirits of the forest.

Katja

For her part, Katja met with members of the Vanguard Company whereupon they discussed taking a new job from the mysterious, armored figure Litany. Skeptical as she always was around strangers, Katja spoke out against just blindly taking the job which was linked to the equally enigmatic necromancer, Rihad, that had a storied history with the Vanguard, though Katja herself knew nothing at all about the man. Several other members of the Vanguard did, however, and spoke vehemently about how they felt about the man, none of it really seeming positive between Adalind Halnova’s opinions and those of Vincere Northfield. Barkeep R’haya Selewa seemed as clueless about things as Katja did, but was still willing to at least take on the courier portions of helping the man.

Probably the most suspicious of the lot was Mi’rhysi Fenfar who seemed to sing this ‘Rihad’s’ praises, claiming him as an ally of the Vanguard and someone they worked with frequently. It rang out in such contrast with what everyone else in the room was saying that Katja continued to have reservations about even joining in on the shenanigans that were afoot.

In a strange effort to win over her trust, the man, Litany entrusted Katja with a magical cube that he claimed would be able to stop him in his tracks for a short period of time to allow her friends to escape or subdue him if it came to it. Still uncertain, Katja took the orb with much hesitation, ensuring that she didn’t touch the magical object with her bare hands. She’d learned enough from Valeria Camena to know that one didn’t handle such arcane relics first-hand. After the man left, she tried to entrust it to Vincere, but the viera insisted she keep it as the only one still holding some hesitation over everything. Perhaps the only one thinking with a clear head.

In the aftermath, Katja also learned some new information about the Vanguard and its leader, Kaste Fenfar, who was supposedly ‘resurrected’ from the dead by this necromancer, Rihad. It was, Vincere reasoned, why Mi’rhysi was so charitable toward the man. Now convinced that Kaste was an ash-kin and potentially able to be controlled by Rihad if push came to shove, Katja hid the cube where only she could find it and wonders now just what she’s really gotten herself involved with.

The Vanguard had a veritable skeletal army in their closet, it seemed.
